A Rights Respecting School
Longwill School for Deaf Children are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded the Gold Rights Respecting Award. UNICEF have recognised our commitment and achievement in developing a rights respecting community and promoting active global citizenship.
The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child underpins our vision and practice throughout school and so we are very proud to receive this prestigious award.
We are the first special school in Birmingham, and indeed throughout the whole of the West Midlands, to receive the Gold Award.
Well done Longwill!
Congratulations to Foundation Lillies, for their well thought out garden which also raised our awareness on the convention of the rights of the child.
Mouse was able to relax and play (Article 31) because the Gruffalo protected him.
(respect for the views of the child) Every child has the right to express their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them, and to have their views considered and taken seriously.
At Longwill we enjoy the right to play safely with our friends. We discussed the importance of being kind to one another. We have joined our individual puzzle pieces together showing we are all different but united. We respect and show tolerance to each other.
Article 31 Every child has the right to play and rest.
